Mediterranean cuisine is famous around the world for being healthy and delicious. In all parts of the world, people love eating Italian and Greek food and Canada is not an exception. If you visit Montreal and want to eat something Mediterranean, don’t worry, there are plenty of excellent restaurants offering this kind of food.

Italian and Greek food are very tasty, and famous, also easy to prepare and quite affordable. We will give you a few tips on what to order and try, and of course suggest perfect drinks for your eating pleasure.
Let’s start with Italian food. In Montreal, there are a few types of Italian restaurant you can choose from. They have different offer and different prices. Bar- caffe is the first kind of Italian restaurants. These venues offer snacks and breakfast like brioche, spuntini, frittata, Panini etc. Italian coffee is a must. Panninoteca describes a sandwich shop with a marvellous selection of sandwiches with smoked ham, olives, tomato, mozzarella cheese etc. Pizzerias are the most famous Italian food spots, located all over Montreal. They are famous for serving premium pizzas, crunchy, tasty, with different toppings and additions. Of course, as you know, pizza is the Italian no.1 specialty. Another great type of restaurant serving Italian food is the spaghetteria – specialized in spaghetti-making. If you decide to eat pizza, spaghetti or another Italian dish, do not skip the amazing Italian wine! Ristorante is Italian name for the restaurant and there are a dozen great ones in Montreal. They offer an upscale menu and have slightly higher prices. Trattorias are also very popular, and they are a bit more laid back than restaurants and slightly cheaper, with domestic atmosphere and great food selection.
If you, for instance, prefer Greek food, Montreal will surprise you too. There are many Greek restaurants (owned by Greek people, where the whole staff is from Greece) with authentic food, style and atmosphere. Greek food is extremely healthy, with plenty of vegetables, olive oil, fish, meat and vinegar. Most popular Greek dishes are: boureki (vegetable and meat fillings with pastry wrap), Greek salad (with tomato, cucumber, red onion, kalamata olives and feta cheese), koukkia (fava beans), aubergine salad (eggplant salad), skordalia (puree made of garlic and potato), potato salad, tyropita (pie with feta cheese), spanakopita (includes spinach, feta and ricotta cheese, wrapped up in pastry), squids, and steaks.
In Italian restaurants, try appetizer drinks Campari, Cinzano etc; with your main course, drink beautiful Italian wine, and after that you can also try some prosecco. If you decide to eat in a Greek restaurant, do not miss their traditional (very strong) drinks Metaxa, Ouzo, Retsina and Tsipouro.
In Montreal, it is very important to decide how much you want to spend, and where you want to eat (in which part of the city). After you decide, it is very easy to find the perfect dining place because this city offers a huge variety of places, with one similarity – amazing food.

For people who love to travel, there is one golden rule about the food in foreign countries – always eat like locals! That is a great recommendation, and you should keep it in mind. Whenever you travel, try to blend in as much as possible, learn about tradition and culture and of course – taste the domestic, local cuisine. If you go to Montreal eat like Quebecois do!

Their traditional, domestic food is actually traditional French, with local additions and ingredients. Restaurants serve French specialties but with domestic “flavour” so they add wild vegetables (for instance mushrooms, fiddleheads or ramps), maple syrup etc. Fish they eat is fresh, and the most popular kinds are freshwater salmon and trout. People in Montreal restaurants mostly eat healthy meals, based on fish and vegetables and the best meals are served in restaurants like Chez L’Epicier, Toque…
Montreal also offers a huge variety of fast food restaurants where you can try all sorts of not-so-healthy but very tasty dishes. These small corner restaurants serve poutine (that means you will get frites with strong gravy and cheese curds that are melting), an interesting combo known as pizzaghetti (pizza/spaghetti mix) and very popular sandwiches with smoked meat. Basically every local street vendor, neighbourhood fast food restaurant or take out corner offers this fast food selection.
Apart from local, traditional food, Montreal has a big number of restaurants serving international (foreign) cuisine. That means that if you have a craving for certain cuisine, in Montreal you will have no trouble finding what you want. For those who like American food – Cosmos Snack Bar, Beaver Club and Beauty’s will be the perfect choice. If you are more into delicious Asian food, then visit Chao Phraya, Chu Chai, Ginger or Ganges, they are all excellent. Canadian food (described above) is served in fantastic restaurants like Chez Noeser, Aix Cuisine du Terroir, Chez L’Epicier, and Bronte. Of course, since Canadian cuisine presents a mixture of French food and local ingredients, there is a huge variety of French restaurants all over Montreal. Ones you need to check out if you travel there are: Bonaparte, legendary Au Pied de Cochon, L’Express and Decca 77. Italian food is loved and accepted all over the world, and Montreal is no exception. There are many great Italian restaurants all over town where you can taste tasty pastas and marvellous wine, just like Italians do. Casa Napoli, Café via Dante, Amelio’s and BU Bar a Vin are among the best Italian restaurants in Quebec, so check them out if you visit Montreal.
If you prefer desserts and sweets more than regular meals, then you have to try maple sugar sweets, which are the best Canadian sweet brand. Crepes or pancakes, maple syrup toffee and coffee with maple syrup are traditional desserts in every restaurant in Canada. If you have a sweet tooth, these are restaurants in Montreal you shouldn’t skip: Bilboquet, Premiere Moisson Boulangerie, la Maison Cakao, Brulerie Saint – Denis…
No matter what your favourite cuisine is, or what kind of sweets you prefer, restaurants in Montreal will certainly offer you a variety of good tastes and excellent food to choose from. Enjoy!

Montreal is one of the best tourist places in North America, known for its excellent restaurant offerings. This is very important for tourists and all those people who love tasting new, interesting food and enjoying a variety of different cuisines and drinks from all over the world. If you enjoy new, different tastes, international food selection and even some exotic dishes – Montreal will certainly surprise you with its exquisite food offerings.

Let’s start with Italian cuisine, perhaps one of the most popular ones around the globe. There are several types of Italian restaurants one can visit in Montreal. A café-bar is the place where you can grab a quick bite or breakfast, excellent Italian coffee or something traditional but smaller (like a quick snack), for instance: brioche, spuntini, tramezzini, frittata, Panini…Then there are pizzerias, specialized for pizza-making. The Italian no.1 specialty is pizza – tasty, crunchy, and delicious, with various toppings and additions. Panninotecas are sandwich shops – selling sandwiches with mozzarella, tomato, smoked meat, olives and cheese. These sandwiches are tasty and healthy. Similar to pizzeria is spaghettaria, specialized in spaghetti-making, and there are a lot of those venues in Montreal. Finally, if you want an upscale menu and more premium atmosphere, you can visit a traditional Italian restaurant. However, if you want to feel real Italian atmosphere, you should visit a trattoria with a huge variety of meals and a bit more laid back feeling.
Montreal also has amazing Asian cuisine restaurants all over the city, and by Asian we mean Chinese, Japanese and Indian. Chinese and Indian food is cheaper than Japanese, and you will see two types of restaurants – take-away and regular ones. If you are busy and in a hurry, order via phone and just collect your meal in a take-out restaurant; they are cheap and the food is excellent. Note: Indian food is very hot, so don’t go wild with curry! Classical restaurants offer a better variety of meals, and they offer real, authentic traditional Asian atmosphere. For sushi and sashimi fans – Montreal offers a few great Japanese bars. Their food consists of raw seafood, vegetables, rice and noodles and is extremely healthy. Prices are a bit higher and the food is world-famous for a good reason – it is delicious!
Canadian food is originally developed from French cuisine, so if you would like to “Go French”, Montreal is the right place. French restaurants can be either very cheap or very classy with premium style, so be careful when you choose. Depending on the area, and hype, prices vary. French food includes meat, vegetables, great sauces and soups, and is served in smaller portions. An absolute must is original French wine and their amazing desserts.
Finally, if you decide to eat healthy, with vinegar, olive oil, raw vegetables and 1st class meat and fish – search for a good Greek restaurant in Montreal. There are a few good ones in the city centre offering superb food and great traditional drinks – metaxa, ouzo and retsina.

Montreal is the second largest city in Canada, and the one that’s been influenced strongly by France in the past (for instance, Montreal’s official language is French, and more than 57% of the population uses it). French food is almost recognized as their local, domestic cuisine, so if you are in the mood for a quality French meal, Montreal will offer a top selection.

There are several types of restaurants serving French cuisine, and they offer different meals, different wines, and different service and, of course, their meal prices vary, from very cheap to extremely expensive. Here are the types of French restaurant you can choose from in Montreal.
- French restaurants – they are open 6 days a week and can have different price range and food offer. Customers select their order from a printed menu, and can choose from regional French menus to a modern styled food. French restaurants offer huge food selection to both meat eaters and vegetarians. The selection of wine is exquisite, from regular priced bottles to very very expensive ones.
- French bistro or bistrot – there is a huge variety in Montreal. These venues are smaller than a restaurant and their menu is written on the board in front of the menu, or will be told to you once you sit to order. The quality of food is also exquisite, but the atmosphere is looser, and more laid back than in the fancy restaurant. Most famous Dishes bistros are: coq au vin and confit de canard.
- The next kind of French cuisine restaurants in Montreal is Brasserie (which in French means brewery). These are smaller venues and they mostly serve wines and (uncommon in French bars) beer. Brasseries are less expensive and known for great selection of seafood and sauerkraut. Brasseries are open all day, and they offer the same dishes every day (with minor variations recommended by the cook).
- The French bar is another establishment very well-respected in Montreal. There are many different and they offer drinks (wines primarily) and finger food, starters, croissants and appetizers. These are not classical food places and you don’t come here to eat, but to have few drinks with your friends, and have a quick bite while doing so.
French cuisine is, as we mentioned, very popular in Montreal. It is tasty and known for small portions of food. French people never eat one big meal. Instead, they rather order a few things and then mix them together in combination with some excellent wine. Keep in mind that if you want to have a full treatment, you need to taste at least 3 different wine types – first one before meal, second while you are eating, and third kind with your desserts.
Also, keep in mind that prices in Montreal restaurants serving French food varies and depends on the location, type of restaurant, the venue’s prestige and of course, the kind of meal you have ordered. French cuisine is probably the tastiest one, but is certainly not the cheapest one in Montreal.

In a class all by itself, Montreal Lebanese restaurants are a great place to grab a bite to eat. They are full of flavor, and atmosphere. The food here is fresh, and prepared to perfection by very talented chefs. They use very specific oils, seasonings, and techniques to whip up some delightful dishes for you to enjoy. It is a very popular cuisine among tourists, and residents of Montreal. People will travel from all around the world just to get a little taste of the one of a kind food. They use special ingredients exclusively for these wonderful dishes.

When it comes to Montreal Lebanese restaurants there are a few ingredients that come standard in the meals. Just like in an authentic restaurant cooks use fruits, vegetables, and fish that are found fresh in Montreal. The thing that truly sets these restaurants apart is their unique use of spices. They have a special way of blending different flavors together into every single dish that they serve you. One of the spices that they love to use is garlic. It complements the fresh seafood that they serve, in a way that everyone really enjoys. At one of these great establishments you can choose to have your vegetables raw, or cooked lightly in an olive oil mixture. The reason that they choose to use olive oil is that it helps to absorb the fat off of the poultry. Lemon juice is also used to enhance the flavor of the dishes that are commonly served in this type of restaurant in the city. They use the juice on lamb and seafood dishes. The lemon brings out the natural flavorings in the meat, and seafood. It can also be used as a tenderizer that will make the food just melt away in your mouth. Two of the most common ways for the chefs to cook the food in a Montreal Lebanese restaurant, is to grill it, or sauté it. The idea behind these two particular methods of preparation is that they want to preserve the earthy flavors of the food. This particular type of food is a dining experience that you will never be able to forget. It will be some of the most delightful food that you have ever tasted, and very few diners ever leave unhappy.
It is a healthy way to eat without having to give any of the flavors up. The other thing that you can find in a Montreal Lebanese restaurant is the atmosphere that goes along with the great meal. Though the atmosphere of the restaurants tends to change from day to night, they are both a great time to have an incredible bite to eat. You might choose to go and set down for a quite evening, or you can just slip in for the great food on the go. If you go to one of these establishments for dinner, then you should try their exquisite homemade breads with hummus. Any choice that you make is sure to be pleasing to your mouth.

Fusion cuisine is a huge hit around the world. This cuisine is a mixture of elements of various culinary approaches combined together, and it was implemented in restaurants during the 70’s. Fusion cuisine became very popular again in the last decade. In Montreal, fans of fusion have more than 20 restaurants to choose from, depending on the price range, cooking and serving styles, and restaurant locations.

Asian Fusion restaurants are among the most popular ones. They feature and combine Chinese food, Indian cuisine and Singapore dishes. In Asian Fusion restaurants, you will probably recognize meals and names, but here they have a little twist – which means they have been prepared in a modern way and not traditionally. Montreal offers excellent Asian fusion restaurants and the best thing is – they are not expensive!
Another fusion approach means that the cook is using original traditional dishes but changing main ingredients, making them fresh, new and original. This is a more eclectic approach. Basically, these restaurants serve regional cuisine with new ideas and twists. Restaurants from this group are bit more expensive, and their interior is usually very modern and NY-inspired (marble, glass, monochromatic materials and colours). Worry not – Montreal has 3 in the city centre.
The third Fusion type is when a chef makes traditional food with ingredients from other cuisine. Here is an example: pizza with cheddar, salsa, pepper jack cheese, beans etc (ingredients for Mexican food). If you are up for experiments, this fusion will be your perfect choice. Winning combos include a crossover between Italian and Mexican food, between Indian and French cuisine and between Greek and Asian food.
As we have mentioned, these restaurants can be cheap or very expensive, depending on the part of the city they are located in, the cuisines which are mixed, and the reputation the restaurant has. Everything connected to Asian food guarantees huge portions, spicy but tasty food, lower prices and cosy authentic ambient. Fusion of French, Italian and American food can cost you more. Fancy restaurants usually have high prices, offer an amazing variety of drinks and tasty, but smaller portions of food.
Montreal gathers a lot of tourists every year and its settlers are from all over the world. That is why the offer is so rich, and you really need a lot of time and will taste every cuisine there, and feel their real hospitality. If you plan to go out on a dinner, cruise the web to find the best possible offer. Fusion cuisine is very popular so the choice will not be easy. Decide which mixture (fusion) works best for you, then decide how much money you would like to spend, and then select from the offers, where you want to eat.
Since fusion is the no.1 trend at the moment, Montreal, being a big city, certainly has a lot to show and offer. We suggest brave combinations: where Mexican food meets Italian, but that is only for the bravest hedonists!

If you decide to visit Montreal, prepare for the cold weather, very friendly people and a variety of possibilities regarding great fun, adventure and business opportunities. This second largest city in Canada is a place where you can have fun, make new friends, learn more about Canada and of course enjoy excellent food and wines from all over the globe. Since Montreal (Quebec) was highly influenced by France (more than 50% of the population speaks French – the official language) if you desire French food, you will have plenty of offers on your plate.

Let’s start with breakfast – the most important meal of the day. If you want to start the day like the French do, here is what you must put on your plate: croissants with chocolate or vanilla, tartines of French baguette with jelly, and coffee or tea. French breakfast is served in various bistros, brasseries and cafes all over Montreal.
If you are in the mood for French lunch, then you should visit a French restaurant or bistro for the full treatment. French cuisine includes an amazing cheese selection, a variety of vegetables, salads, and all kinds of meat. Soup or pottage is a must, and keep in mind that portions usually are smaller (because their food is strong, so you are full after only a few bites). Keep in mind that restaurants are more expensive than bistros (that is the situation in France, and it is the same in Montreal). Also, do not forget to try the excellent French wine! Different kinds of wine are served with meals, these kinds go with appetizers and a third kind is the wine best mixed with desserts.
Dinner is very important in French restaurants in Montreal and worldwide. This meal lasts longer than lunch or breakfast, and if you decide to go out, you should share it with friends. Dinner consists of 3 courses (in the best restaurants). First is the entrée or hors d’oeuvre and it consists of a soup (for instance – onion soup) or vegetable pottage. The second part of the dinner is the main course (in French – plat principal) and the final part of the dinner is dessert, or in some cases, a cheese course (with sweet dessert wine). Almost every French restaurant in Montreal serves dinner between 7:30 and 11:00 pm.
These are all the facts you need to know about French cuisine in Montreal, and here is the description and the recommendation of the best restaurants in this city, for all French food lovers.
In the city centre, you will be pleasantly surprised with a few elegant bistro-restaurants with charming interior design and food made in the best French tradition. French restaurants usually have a cosy dining room, a small terrace and a bar on the second level. In the heart of Montreal, you will find a great restaurant, built in 1862, with tremendous service and an excellent wine selection.
You just need to decide how much you want to spend, in which part of Montreal you would like to go, and which French meal you would prefer to enjoy!

If you decide to travel to Montreal you may have some difficulties adjusting to the climate, weather, winter, lifestyle etc. But, one thing you shouldn’t worry about is food. Canada’s second largest city is very well-organized and offers a great variety of tastes, cuisines, drinks and of course prices for all that. Also, you know the golden rule of travelling – whenever you travel abroad, you should eat like locals do! In Montreal that is a safe bet, because delicious food can be found on every corner.
If you love Italian cuisine, you will simply fall in love with small traditional Italian restaurants all over Montreal, with great food, brilliant wines, good prices and cosy and pleasant atmosphere. There are different kinds of Italian restaurants to choose from, and we will now describe them all to you, to make your future choice easier!

Bar/Caffe – a place where you can eat something light or have a nice snack, or breakfast. These venues are famous for their coffee (no one makes it better than Italians), and snacks such as brioche, Panini, spuntini, frittata, tramezzini etc. In Montreal, there are several great bars where you can stop by on your way to work, or to have a light tasty breakfast.
Panninoteca is a term for sandwich shop. Italian sandwiches include mozzarella cheese, tomato, smoked ham and olives, and are very tasty, and healthy (with premium ingredients).
Pizzerias are located all over Montreal. Just like the name says, they are famous for their crunchy, tasty, delicious pizzas, with various toppings you can choose from. Pizza is the Italian no.1 specialty.
Similar to a pizzeria is the spaghetteria. In restaurants specialized for spaghetti-making, you can enjoy a full range of toppings and a great selection of Italian wines.
Ristorante is the name for a traditional Italian restaurant, and there is a huge number of them in Montreal. Ristorantes offer different meals (quite an upscale menu), and have slightly higher prices.
Finally, you will notice the sign Trattoria in Montreal everywhere. It is a name for dining venue (where usually all members of the family work) with lower prices, and informal atmosphere compared to restaurants. Montreal has a few excellent ones!
If you want to actually eat like Italians do, we will present you the traditional Italian way of dining. First you should order Aperitivo (a drinking appetizer such as Campari, Cinzano, Prosecco, and Vermouth) and drink it before you start eating. Then comes Antipasto, which in Italian means – before the meal. Appetizers can be served hot and cold. The first course is called Primo in Italian, and consists of a hot dish (Italians always order pasta or risotto, or gnocchi, or soup/potage). Next thing you should order is the second course – Secondo. It is a main meal and usually includes meat or fish. A side dish you combine with the main course is called Contorno (usually Italians order cooked vegetables, salads etc). Next on your table: cheese and fruits or formaggio e frutta, and that is the first dessert. Main dessert comes after, and it usually contains cakes and cookies. After desserts, Italians order coffee, and finally at the end of the evening – Digestivo (digestive), liquors like amaro, limoncello, sambuca etc.
