Let’s start with Italian cuisine, perhaps one of the most popular ones around the globe. There are several types of Italian restaurants one can visit in Montreal.  A café-bar is the place where you can grab a quick bite or breakfast, excellent Italian coffee or something traditional but smaller (like a quick snack), for instance: brioche, spuntini, tramezzini, frittata, Panini…Then there are pizzerias, specialized for pizza-making. The Italian no.1 specialty is pizza – tasty, crunchy, and delicious, with various toppings and additions. Panninotecas are sandwich shops – selling sandwiches with mozzarella, tomato, smoked meat, olives and cheese. These sandwiches are tasty and healthy. Similar to pizzeria is spaghettaria, specialized in spaghetti-making, and there are a lot of those venues in Montreal. Finally, if you want an upscale menu and more premium atmosphere, you can visit a traditional Italian restaurant. However, if you want to feel real Italian atmosphere, you should visit a trattoria with a huge variety of meals and a bit more laid back feeling.

Montreal also has amazing Asian cuisine restaurants all over the city, and by Asian we mean Chinese, Japanese and Indian. Chinese and Indian food is cheaper than Japanese, and you will see two types of restaurants – take-away and regular ones. If you are busy and in a hurry, order via phone and just collect your meal in a take-out restaurant; they are cheap and the food is excellent. Note: Indian food is very hot, so don’t go wild with curry! Classical restaurants offer a better variety of meals, and they offer real, authentic traditional Asian atmosphere. For sushi and sashimi fans – Montreal offers a few great Japanese bars. Their food consists of raw seafood, vegetables, rice and noodles and is extremely healthy. Prices are a bit higher and the food is world-famous for a good reason – it is delicious!

Canadian food is originally developed from French cuisine, so if you would like to “Go French”, Montreal is the right place. French restaurants can be either very cheap or very classy with premium style, so be careful when you choose. Depending on the area, and hype, prices vary. French food includes meat, vegetables, great sauces and soups, and is served in smaller portions. An absolute must is original French wine and their amazing desserts.

Finally, if you decide to eat healthy, with vinegar, olive oil, raw vegetables and 1st class meat and fish – search for a good Greek restaurant in Montreal. There are a few good ones in the city centre offering superb food and great traditional drinks – metaxa, ouzo and retsina.
